“Within a few years of buying new construction from Kumas, the roof leaked and needed new fiberglass. All three bathrooms leaked, the liner failed in both walk in showers and the tub wasn’t installed properly. The AC unit failed and needed to be replaced (that might not be their fault but it wasn’t up to code because it was installed in a manner that it couldn’t be accessed for service.) When the house was built the owner admitted to me he didn’t understand how the panels on the exterior were supposed to keep out water. It’s been a constant headache and financial blunder buying this home.”
“THIS REVIEW IS SPECIFICALLY ABOUT ONE OF THE SUB CONTRACTORS THIS COMPANY HIRED TO COMPLETE THEIR BUILDING PROJECT - BUILDMAN PROJECTS, LLC. I AM HOLDING BOTH KUMAS AND BUILDMAN PROJECTS RESPONSIBLE AS THEY SOLD THE HOME WITH A WARRANTY OF THE ROOF THAT HAD MATERIAL DEFECTS THAT FAILED WITHIN THE GIVEN 5 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBLITY AND MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. BUYER BEWARE - THIS BUSINESS IS A FRAUD AND DOES NOT HONOR ANY WARRANTY PROMISES IT MAKES. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY, THEN DISAPPEAR WHEN ITS TIME TO FIX THEIR SHODDY WORKMASHIP. NO COMMUNICATION - IGNORES CALLS FROM YOUR PHONE NUMBER WHEN THEY KNOW YOU'RE CALLING BUT WILL ANSWER A DIFFERENT NUMBER 3 SECONDS AFTER YOU HANGU UP. FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD. I bought a new construction home from Kumas Homes (Bootstrap Bowtie 1031 Easy, LLC) on 9/21/21. The property is a three-story residence with a basement and rooftop deck. Kumas subcontracted Buildman Projects, LLC to install the roof and represented the work was properly completed and covered by warranty. Since purchase, the home has suffered multiple serious failures. In Nov. 2024, a plumbing defect from a 3rd-floor shower caused water intrusion through every level of the home, resulting in significant interior damage. I was forced to file an insurance claim and pay for mitigation (ServPro) and repairs through my contractor. In early 2026, during a snowstorm in Philadelphia, snow and ice accumulated on the rooftop and, upon thawing, exposed critical roofing defects. Water entered through multiple points, causing catastrophic damage from the third floor through the basement, destroying ceilings, drywall, flooring, cabinetry, and electrical systems, including previously repaired areas. Buildman Projects confirmed in writing that the roof carries a 5-year warranty, yet has refused to honor it. They have ignored calls and messages, failed to appear for scheduled repairs, and avoided communication. Kumas Homes has also failed to respond or take responsibility as the builder. I have spent months attempting to resolve this while my home remains damaged, with repairs now totaling tens of thousands of dollars due to defective construction and installation. This situation has caused significant emotional and physical distress, including anxiety, elevated blood pressure, and ongoing stress. I was also forced to cancel a signed agreement to list my home for sale in February, resulting in financial loss and lost opportunity. This is a clear failure to honor contractual warranties and obligations. I am requesting immediate resolution and hold both Kumas Homes and Buildman Projects fully responsible for all damages. I am prepared to pursue legal action if not resolved promptly.”
“Kumas homes built, what appeared to be, a beautiful new 4 bedroom 3 bathroom home in Grays Ferry Philadelphia. The workmanship and quality of that home are unbelievably poor. Within 1 year of a brand new house, the HVAC/AC has broken three times, the sump pump has been clogged, they did not insulate pipes which caused leaking through the ceiling and dry wall falling out...all in 1 year! They give you a "one year builder warranty" but they make the process for making a claim so long that you can't use it. When water is leaking through the ceiling or you have no AC, you can't wait a week for them to finally accept your claim and dispatch someone to fix it. Their 1 year builders warranty is as good as trash, and when the problems persist after 1 year they say the warranty has expired, even though these same problems keep persisting. Do NOT buy a Kumas new build home, they cut corners, are very poorly built, and your out of pocket maintenance will be amounts you never anticipated.”
