Our team of chiropractors at The Upper Cervical Spine Center In Charlotte, NC uses a specialized form of chiropractic called upper cervical care. Upper cervical doctors focus on the top two bones in the neck called the Atlas and Axis. This area of the spine is very important because it houses and protects the brain stem and because the head is balanced on top of these bones. If one of these bones gets even slightly misaligned two things can happen: A misalignment can close down on the opening putting pressure on the brain stem. This can interfere with the normal transmission of nerve messages from the brain to any one or several parts of the body. If any part of the body does not get the full message from the brain telling it what to do and how to do it, that part no longer works as it is intended. If this persists, the body starts to malfunction and symptoms can develop.
“The first appointment where X-rays and an initial consultation were very positive as I met with Dr. Drury. Before the appointment I had confirmed by phone that they accepted Medicare, otherwise I would not have made the initial appointment. I was told that the initial appointment and X-rays are not covered by insurance but that follow up visits would be covered by insurance. I even called my insurance company to verify this. It should be noted that I was referred by a previous patient so I was looking forward to seeing the chiropractor. On the appointment Dr. Drury went into great detail about how he could help me with my particular situation as he reviewed my X-rays with me. When I showed up for the second scheduled appointment at 1:00pm, the business door was locked. I knocked and nobody answered. Two hours later I received a phone call saying that I missed my appointment and told them I was there at 1:00, but the front door was locked. She told me that they were there the whole time but they were having lunch in the back. She told me that she moved my appointment time from 1:00 to 3:00 and to come to the office now and they could see me. (This was the first I heard of the time change). It wasn’t convenient for me to travel across town back to their office being that it’s a 50 minute drive. When I called to follow up they didn’t have me listed listed as a patient in their database, when I insisted that I had in fact been there for X-rays and consultation, was told they would research and call me back. For the record, I paid cash for the first appointment so they must have my account information somewhere in their system. Well it was a week later that I received a call from Patricia stating they don’t accept insurance and never have and that all appointments are a cash basis. I was definitely confused by this because I had been told differently. As I attempted to explain that I was informed by an another employee they did accept insurance, but the lady would not let me finish my sentence and proceeded to talk over me, and became argumentative. It was impossible to have an adult to adult conversation with her. This type of behavior is unacceptable and unprofessional. It makes me wonder if the owner condones this type of verbal abuse in an office setting. Truly, I don’t know how they stay in business.”
